February “Evening on Fifth” a Success

A lot of people enjoyed a night of Mardi Gras fun on Fifth Avenue South during the Association’s monthly “Evening on Fifth.” Several merchants reported a record number of patrons and we expect the turnout to continue throughout the year. Please help us by promoting the event to your customers – the next “Evening on Fifth” will be Thursday, March 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

March “Evening on Fifth” Snowbird Festival

In a salute to visitors, tourists, sightseers, seasonal residents, and locals who want to party like they’re on vacation, don your tropical shirt, Bermuda shorts, knee-high socks, fanny pack and straw hat for a night on the town! For those who did not pack, or do not own, traditional tourist accessories, Masquerade will be selling items at several locations.

Downtown Parking Update

As we all know, parking is an important issue affecting all businesses in downtown Naples. City leaders have taken notice and are investigating several options to increase parking for 5th Avenue South and the entire downtown area. A public meeting was held February 21. City Council is considering the issuance of a RFQ (Request for Qualifications) for the design and construction of a parking garage on City owned property located at 8th Street South and 6th Avenue South.

Thank you to all members who attended this meeting to represent the Downtown Naples Association.

City Council Debates Live Entertainment & Noise Ordinance

Downtown restaurateurs and merchants turned out in full force at a February 5 City Council workshop to discuss late-night live entertainment and amplified sound (DJ music). After much discussion and debate, City Council members agreed a DJ playing songs does not constitute live entertainment and therefore, downtown businesses with an amplified sound permit are allowed to utilize a DJ until closing time (and not end the music at 11:30 p.m. as required for live entertainment. Although no official decisions made nor vote taken regarding a noise ordinance downtown, the City Council agreed the issue needs to be discussed further and rules clarified.

Visitor Kiosk Debuts March 17

As reported in the Naples Daily News, the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce has received approval from the Naples City Council to install a visitor kiosk on 5th Avenue South, which will provide convenient access to area information and directions to the Visitor & Information Centers. The interactive kiosk will be installed at 711 5th Avenue South in front of Wynn’s and is scheduled to be operational March 17. Click here to read the Naples Daily News article.
