JULY 2007 New CRA Director Named The City Council has hired Russ Adams as the new executive director for the Naples Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), effective July 30. Adams most recently was the community development director in Bensenville, Illinois, where he was instrumental in rebuilding the city’s main street. He has also served as his village’s director of engineering and capital projects and has worked in the private sector. Adams will work closely with the CRA’s board of directors with the goal of expediting much needed improvements such as a new parking garage, lighting along Fifth Avenue South and 10th Street North improvements. The city’s CRA district enables city officials to use tax money raised within that area to improve neighborhoods and businesses in the area comprising the Fifth Avenue South overlay, the 41-10 area which includes River Park, Four Corners, and the Third Street South shopping district. New Downtown Parking Garage Approved The City Council has approved the hiring of Andrea Clark Brown & David Poorman Architects to design and oversee the construction of a second downtown parking garage at the corner of Eighth Street South and Sixth Avenue South across from Cambier Park. The firm has been encouraged to include mixed-uses into the parking facility. A private developer, Barron Collier Cos., has approached the city about being part of the development of the garage and the land immediately to the east of the current parking lot. Plans for the garage schedule completion by the 2008/09 season if not sooner.
