DOWNTOWN NAPLES ASSOCIATION MEMBER MESSENGER
OCTOBER 2007
Downtown Naples Marketing Plan Announced

A comprehensive marketing plan for the downtown district – which encompasses Fifth Avenue South, Third Street South, Bayfront, Crayton Cove, Tin City and the U.S. 41-10th Street area – was unveiled by DNA staff at the membership meeting September 17 at The von Liebig Art Center.
Working with Paradise Advertising & Marketing, Inc., which is serving the Association on a pro bono basis, DNA officials presented a multitude of initiatives to promote the entire downtown area year-round to both visitors and local residents:
- A new branding tagline will be used in all marketing and promotional purposes: “Destination Downtown: The Heart of Naples”
- A “Destination Downtown: The Heart of Naples” advertising campaign will be placed in annual publications, Naples Trolley guide, and local lifestyle, real estate and business magazines
- New directional signage for the Downtown Information Center will soon be installed throughout the downtown area
- VIP savings card program to be implemented summer 2008 in conjunction with The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitor Bureau
- Annual calendar of events featuring three art shows and a craft show, monthly Evenings on Fifth, and nine special events including holiday celebrations and wine festivals
- Calendar of events to be displayed within information centers at Coastland Mall and The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce
- Evening on Fifth promotion via Embarq billing statements
- Curtco Publishing is producing the 2008 Downtown Naples Guide which will be distributed at numerous locations throughout Naples

Downtown Parking Garage Update
As reported in the last newsletter, plans have been submitted for a proposed parking garage at Sixth Avenue South and Eighth Street South, with an estimated completion date of December 2008. Recent media stories reported that the Naples City Council on September 19 voted 5-2 against reconsidering a land swap with Barron Collier Companies. The swap would have allowed Barron Collier Cos. to build a mixed-use building on Eighth Street South and Sixth Avenue South and the city would have built the previously mentioned 343-space garage one block away on Ninth Street South (on property currently owned by Barron Collier Cos). Citizens spoke against the swap, requesting it be built where it was originally planned, and Council agreed. Construction of the garage is still scheduled to begin April 2008.
