NOVEMBER 2007 New Naples City Manager Selected After a national search, Naples City Council voted 6-1 October 23 to hire Marco Island City Manager Bill Moss as Naples city manager, replacing Bob Lee who recently left after four years of service. The Naples City Council is scheduled to approve Moss’ contract during its November 7 meeting. Moss’ contract with Marco Island requires 75 days’ notice, but Moss has indicated he will be able to work out an agreement that would allow him to split time between Naples and Marco Island. Downtown Parking Garage Update As reported in the last newsletter, Naples City Council agreed to proceed with the new parking garage at 6th Avenue South and 8th Street South. Construction of the garage is scheduled to begin April 2008. To accommodate more visitors to the downtown area during season and provide additional parking while the garage is under construction, the City is exploring other options: the use of trolleys to transport people from remote parking locations to downtown destinations, using trolleys on 5th Avenue South moving east and west, and valet parking. These items will be discussed by City Council in upcoming meetings and workshops. Holiday Gift Wrapping at Downtown Information Center The holiday shopping season will soon be underway and DNA, in conjunction with six local charities, will be offering gift wrapping services for merchandise purchased in the downtown area during November 23 through December 22 (Monday-Saturday) at the Downtown Information Center. Receipts will be required to verify the item(s) was purchased from a downtown merchant. Tin City has graciously donated the wrapping paper and bows.
