DOWNTOWN NAPLES ASSOCIATION MEMBER MESSENGER
DECEMBER 2006
Fifth Avenue South Lights Up for the Holidays!
Holiday traditions continue this year as Downtown Naples hosts a series of community events and entertainment throughout December. From Santa Claus and the “best dressed tuba” to carolers and fine art exhibits, there is no better place to be than Downtown Naples for the holidays! Festivities kicked-off December 7 with ABC-7 morning anchors joining Naples Mayor Bill Barnett to light the 25-foot Christmas tree in Sudgen Plaza.
Promotional efforts are underway to ensure the public is aware of our holiday events – click
here to see the ad that began appearing in the Naples Daily News on December 1. In addition, Beasley Broadcasting will be airing radio spots throughout the month of December.
Special thanks to our holiday sponsors: Beasley Broadcast Group, BB&T Bank, DeVoe Automotive Group, Marine Max, Home Depot, Roy’s, and WordPlay, Inc.

Please note: Fifth Avenue South will be closed to vehicle traffic Dec 30-31 for the Art Festival.
Visitor & Information Center Opens January 8 – Administrative Offices to Relocate at end of December
With just one month to go before opening the doors, finishing touches are being done to the new Visitor & Information Center at 800 Fifth Avenue South. Interior renovations are nearing completion, exterior signage was installed November 30 and the administrative offices are scheduled to move into the building by the end of December. Please note: The current telephone number, 435-3742, will remain the same.
One of the primary goals of the new Visitor & Information Center is to increase exposure and sales for member businesses. As a special introductory offer, all Association members have the exclusive opportunity to display a rack brochure at no charge during January and February ($250.00 value). Should you wish to maintain the brochure rack past February, an invoice will automatically be generated and mailed.
Other sponsorship packages and advertising programs for the Visitor & Information Center are available – click here to view the media kit. To participate in the special introductory offer, contact Executive Director Diana Kelly.
Downtown Parking Garage Set for Final Approval January 18
The proposed parking garage at the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue South and Fourth Street South is close to becoming a reality. Naples City Council gave initial approval November 15 for a rezoning to developer Jack Antaramian to build a three-story condominium building over a four-level, 321-space parking garage, of which 190 spaces would be leased by the city for public use.
The second, and final, reading is scheduled to take place at the January 18 City Council meeting – please plan to be present to show your support for this parking garage, which would be of tremendous benefit to Downtown Naples.
Associations Merge With Lots of Fanfare
History was made November 15 at Vergina’s when the Bayfront and 41-10 Associations officially became a part of the Downtown Naples Association. Representatives from all three associations signed the official merger document, which was witnessed by Naples Mayor Bill Barnett and approximately 100 members. The significance of this merger did not go unnoticed – the story was covered by ABC-7, NBC-2, Naples Daily News, News-Press, Naples Life and Gulfshore Business Daily.
In addition, Association Director Jeanette Billings is quoted in a current Newsweek article touting the importance of preserving downtown areas. Click here to read the story.
Members Making a Difference: Christmas Donations Being Collected for 24 Homeless Woman at St. Matthew’s House
Association members Beverly Howe and Barbara Simons are continuing their annual tradition of holiday giving by sponsoring a Christmas party for the female residents at St. Matthew's House, a homeless shelter in Naples. They are seeking contributions and donations to make this a warm and loving holiday for the women.
The Downtown Naples Association will donate a portion of the proceeds from the Christmas tree sponsorships to this event. Home Depot is donating the Christmas trees that will be placed in front of merchant stores along Fifth Avenue South.
Monetary donations will be used towards WalMart gift certificates for the women to purchase personal items. Checks can be mailed to: Beverly Howe, 546 96th Ave., Naples, FL 34108.
Other donations can be picked up from your location through Tuesday, December 19 or you may drop them off at the Fifth Avenue Executive Suites (649 Fifth Avenue South) between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
For more information call Beverly Howe at 513-9002 or Barbara Simon at 734-1111.
