Record traffic at the Downtown Information Center

The Downtown Information Center had record traffic this week! More than 100 people per day are stopping by the information center for more information on downtown restaurants, shops, galleries, activities and much more! With the new visitor information center directional signs recently installed at the corner of Fith Ave. & 8th Street as well as U.S. 41 just north of 5th Ave. South, we expect traffic to increase significantly as season approaches. There is limited advertising space remaining. For more information contact Michele Klinowski at michele@napleschamber.org or 298-7932.

Community Input Sought for Police & Emergency Services Dept.

The Naples Police & Emergency Services Department has successfully earned full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA) as an agency that meets or exceeds 459 professional standards of performance and administration. The re-accreditation process occurs every three years and involves a dynamic team of National CALEA auditors who visit the host agency for several days to complete a comprehensive assessment of how well the agency continues to comply with establish standards. A report of findings and recommendations is ultimately submitted by the auditors to the Commission to determine if the agency has met standards and is eligible for re-accreditation.

The Naples Police & Emergency Services Department is scheduled for a re-accreditation audit this December and the Naples community will be given an opportunity to express opinions about the quality of the department. In this regard, the auditors will host a formal forum December 10 at City Hall, and will conduct less formal telephone communications at a scheduled date and time. Please find attached details concerning both events.

Airport Numbers Up

More than 537,000 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport (www.flylcpa.com) in October, an increase of 4.7 percent compared with the same month in 2006. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 7.2 percent over the same period last year.

Holiday Gift Wrapping at Downtown Information Center

The holiday shopping season is in full swing and DNA, in conjunction with six local charities, is providing gift wrapping services for merchandise purchased in the downtown area through December 22 (Monday-Saturday), 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Downtown Information Center.

Volunteers from five local charities are wrapping gifts and proceeds will distributed evenly amongst the charities: Senior Friendship Center, The Humane Society, Naples Woman’s Club, The von Liebig Art Center, and St. Mathews House. A $2.00 donation per gift is requested.

Planning Ahead: Summer 2008 Promotional Opportunity

This year the Naples, Marco Island & the Everglades CVB are teaming up with Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Naples Association, Marco Island Chamber of Commerce and the Everglades City Chamber of Commerce to host a value added summer program for 2008. In order to promote visitation and add an extra value for visiting the Paradise Coast we are printing 25,000 VIP cards for visitors to pick up at the local Visitors centers when they book an overnight stay in one of Collier Counties lodging facilities or stop by one of the visitor centers.

Each participating merchant or organization will be asked to submit a value added offer that will be publicized in a printed brochure, promoted in advertising and on the CVB, Chamber and Downtown Information websites to call attention to the VIP promotion. The CVB will produce the card that will be distributed through out the county. Visitors will show the card at participating facilities to receive the discount.

There is no cost to participate, only that you train your staff and honor the discounts you offer between May 1, 2008 – October 15, 2008. Since many of you already offer discounts during the summer we are hopeful you will participate in this program. We also ask that you track and report VIP card usage.

We are looking for hotels, attractions, restaurants and other retailers that would benefit by visitors business in the summer months. If you would like to participate, please submit the following information to debide@colliergov.net before December 31, 2007:
