The Popcorn Cellar is feeding Southwest Florida’s desire for the newest food craze to sweep the
country: gourmet popcorn. Now, the 5th Avenue business is teaming with bestselling Children’s Book
authors Nick Rokicki and Joe Kelley to bring literacy awareness to youth throughout the region.
Pete the Popcorn 2: Popcorns Practicing Principles is the second book in a series aimed at children in
Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The book prominently features The Popcorn Cellar and an imaginary
5th Avenue, while teaching children about honesty.
“The best way to increase a child’s interest in reading is to engage their imagination with something that
they can relate to,” said author Rokicki. “Popcorn is a special treat that seems to get associated with
movies— we are taking that concept and applying it to reading. Having involvement from a local
business like The Popcorn Cellar captures the attention of adults— adults who are responsible for the
education of children.”
Pete the Popcorn was a nationally recognized book that subtly took on bullying. The book spawned a
tour of 25 states, where the authors visited with over 100,000 school children. Author Joe Kelley will be
visiting with children throughout Southwest Florida during the month of February. “Getting to meet an
author and ask questions about reading, writing and the whole process behind a book is a great way to
pique the interest of kids when it comes to activating their interest in literature,” said Kelley.
Joe Kelley will be appearing for an exclusive book signing event at The Popcorn Cellar during Evening
on Fifth, February 13th from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
