The 5th Avenue South Business Improvement District
The 5th Avenue South Business Improvement District, Inc. (BID) was established in December 2010. A 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, the BID represents the interests of both property owners and businesses in growing and sustaining a healthy, vibrant 5th Avenue South district.
What is the BID?
The BID provides an ongoing mechanism and dedicated source of revenue used by property owners and merchants to guide the future of their retail and commercial areas. The BID is based on state and local law, which permits property owners and merchants to band together to use the local government’s tax collection powers to “assess” themselves. In Naples, these funds are collected by the county and through the city, returned to the BID and are used for purchasing supplemental services (e.g. advertising, promotions and special events and providing downtown management and administration) beyond those services provided by the city.
The BID is managed by a Board of Directors representative of the district boundaries and includes a ten-year “sunset” provision, whereby the district would require a vote after every ten years but would report annually on goals and objectives accomplished. The City of Naples agrees to maintain the baseline level of services.
Promote brand awareness of the 5th Avenue South Business Improvement District to residents and visitors as THE destination of choice to live, work, shop, dine and play.
Board of Directors
Mr. Wynn is current President of Wynn Properties and serves on the Wynn Family Board. A graduate of The University of Florida with a BBA and an MBA concentration in Finance, Mr. Wynn has significant experience in Commercial Real Estate Sales, Leasing, Development and Management. Mr. Wynn represents the property owner category on the Board of Directors.
Jerri and her husband, David, have made a significant investment in 5th Avenue South, having amassed key properties up and down the Avenue as a part of Hoffmann Commercial Real Estate. She grew up in Missouri, in a family of small retailers and graduated from Central Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in education. Jerri will bring practical experience to the table as a seasoned community volunteer, having chaired numerous fundraising and philanthropic events and endeavors. She has worked extensively in a variety of roles for HCRE over the years and has been actively involved in the transformation of Avon, Colorado, both with the Town of Avon and as a commercial property owner. She and her husband have a deep love of community and the arts and look forward to becoming involved with the 5th Avenue South family. She will serve as representative of the property owner category.
David Gordley has over 25 years of experience in large corporate, middle market and commercial real estate lending, cash management and retail banking. He joined IBERIABANK in May of 2011 as the Commercial Banking Group Manager for Collier County. Two years later, he was promoted to Market President for Collier County. In the Spring of 2014, his territory was expanded to include Lee County. Gordley is an active leader and volunteer in Southwest Florida. He currently serves as vice chairman for The Village School board of directors, board member for the Children’s Advocacy Center, member of the leadership council for SCORE Naples and member of the resource development committee for the Naples Art Association. He is a past board member of the Friends of Rookery Bay. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He and his wife, Carrie, have two beautiful daughters named Ellie and Anna. Mr. Gordley is representing the merchant category.
Marketing Committee Chairman
The Martin and Furetta family are continuing a family tradition on 5th that started in 1995 with the opening of Bellini on Fifth Italian Ristorante. Stefania joined the business in 1998 after working as corporate public relations executive in Milan, London, Hong Kong and Basil, Switzerland. Celebrating 20 years of ‘autentico italiano’ on 5th Avenue South, Bellini embraces the tradition of family recipes and the elegant simplicity of authentic Italian food with a contemporary interpretation, re-imagined flavor combinations, artfully presented.
Mrs. Martin is past president and ex-officio on the Marketing Committee and Board.
Ms. Macdonald is the Managing Broker for the Naples 5th Avenue South Office of Coldwell Banker. She has been in the business for over 25 years, and has held various senior management positions within the company, most recently Regional Vice President for Coldwell Banker CT/NY overseeing 17 offices throughout the Fairfield County, CT region. In addition, Nancy also worked in Commercial Real Estate in San Diego County, California, specializing in investment Properties and the sale and leasing of office and retail space. She is a graduate of Hofstra University with a BA in English Literature. Ms. Macdonald represents the merchant category on the board of directors.
Christopher Shucart is President of JCS Realty Group. JCS Realty Group is locally based in Naples, Florida and has over 50 years of experience in real estate development and investing including: hotels, restaurants, marina, condo conversions, residential & multi-family projects, raw land development, and retail, office, industrial real estate investments. Christopher is married to his beautiful wife Rochelle and they have an adventurous, energetic and sports enthusiast son, Carsten. When Christopher is not working he enjoys spending time with his family. They enjoy many outdoor activities, including boating, fishing, jogging, tennis & traveling.
As a recent graduate of High Point University Joseph McCabe is full of energy and tenacity. He majored in business with a concentration in entrepreneurship. Being one of the few life-long residents of Naples, Joseph has an extensive knowledge of the history of the town and the direction in which it is going. As Vice President of project development at Gulf Coast Commercial Corp, he looks forward to using his day-to-day work to complement the mission of the BID in promoting the growth and flourishment of Downtown Naples.
Immediate Past President
A native of Naples, Jim Smith formed Investors Research & Development Corporation in 1968. The company specialized in market studies, real estate appraisals, land syndication, and permitting and zoning for larger scale, mixed use developments from Tampa to Naples. Jim retired in 2006, but continues to consult and manage select real properties under the trade name RE/quest. He has been actively involved in downtown redevelopment and improvement activities since 1993. Mr. Smith represents the property owner category on the Board of Directors.
Mr. Vlasho’s career as an Executive has spanned over 50 years in positions with Fortune 400 corporations, and privately owned companies. In addition he is an entrepreneur with practical small business experience. Mr. Vlasho is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). In 1982 he was elected President of Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), the world’s leading management accounting organization. Mr. Vlasho has devoted his time over the last 50 years to many civic and community organizations and affairs in the communities in which he has resided.
Mr. Wynn is currently President of the Wynn family’s chain of Ace Hardware stores and serves as Chairman of the Wynn family Board of Directors. He is actively involved in the Southwest Florida business and civic community serving as immediate past Chair of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce; co-chair of the Partnership for Collier’s Future Economy; past trustee of the YMCA of the Palms; a current member of VISTA, a 2008 graduate of Leadership Collier; and a 2012 graduate of Leadership Florida. Mr. Wynn represents the property owner category on the board of directors.
Past Vice President
Mr. Castan has twenty five years of experience in commercial property development, sales, leasing, and management. He is the President of the Leasing and Property Management Division and a Partner with Courtelis Company, a Miami based commercial and multi-family real estate development firm. He is responsible for the leasing and management of 25 existing properties and multiple new development projects, totaling almost 2.5 million square feet in Florida and Colorado. Courtelis currently manages the largest real estate holdings on 5th Avenue South. He is a graduate of Florida International University, B.B.A. in Finance. Mr. Castan serves as ex-officio on the Board of Directors and Advisory on the Avenue Enrichment Committee.
Mr. Quillen is the owner of Culinary Concepts, a restaurant company that started on 5th Avenue with Pazzo! Italian Café 15 years ago. Culinary Concepts has grown into a company of 5 award winning restaurants (Pazzo! Italian Café, Chops City Grill, Blue Water Bistro and Yabba Island Grill) and its own charity, Culinary Concepts Karma Club. Skip employs more than 400 people, many who live and work in downtown Naples and Karma Club which has raised and donated over two million dollars to various local charities. Mr. Quillen is past president and ex-officio on the Board.
