Sip locally: 5th Avenue Coffee Co. is a new cup in town

Marco Island has a new place to go for “joe.” Well, actually, it’s a new business in the same old place where Islanders have traditionally headed to get their morning jolt of caffeine. On Saturday morning, 5th Avenue Coffee Co. opened up at the front of the Esplanade, in the space vacated by Starbucks when the ubiquitous coffee chain built a freestanding location up the street.
And the “5th Avenue” in the name doesn’t refer to the Big Apple. This 5th Avenue comes from up north, but just a little bit. Owners Frederik and Karen Overdijking own another shop with the same name on Fifth Avenue South in Naples, and the Marco Island location is their second.
