The Naples Players to present The Drowsy Chaperone
February 24, 2014
NAPLES, FL- The Naples Players will present The Drowsy Chaperone March 5 – April 5 in Blackburn Hall at Sugden Community Theatre.
Winner of 5 Tony Awards, this musical confection begins when a die-hard musical fanatic, played by Jim Heffernan, tries to ease his blues by playing his favorite 1920’s cast album of The Drowsy Chaperone. The show soon erupts to life in his living room, telling the story of a Broadway starlet, Janet, played by Elizabeth Marcantonio, who wants to leave it all behind for love.
This show-within-a-show is complete with comic vaudeville gangsters, mistaken identities, rousing anthems, and a whole lot of spit-takes resulting in a riotous parody of 1920’s screwball comedy.
Gaston Edmond and Joe Zerbo play the gangsters. Other cast members include Joyce Austin as Trix, the Aviatrix, Kat Ebaugh as Kitty, Jason Eugenides as the self-proclaimed Latin lover Aldolpho, James Flannery as Robert, and Carol Fox as Tottendale. Debi Guthery performs as The Chaperone, with Jake Hanson portraying George, Joe Loiacono, the Superintendent, Matt O’Hare as Feldzieg, and Kevin Kenneally as Underling. Maggie Boswell, Emily Davies, Jacob Hartman, Megan Ruhl, Paula Mercer, and Jayson Laboy will perform in the Ensemble.
The show will be performed Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for students 21 and under, and can be purchased at the box office, by calling 239.263.7990 with credit card information, or by visiting naplesplayers.org. Sugden Community Theatre is located at 701 5th Avenue South in downtown Naples.
