The Naples Players to Host Auditions for Gypsy

NAPLES, FL- The Naples Players will hold auditions for Gypsy on Friday, April 11 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. for children and Saturday, April 12 starting at 12:00 p.m. for adults at Sugden Community Theatre, 701 5th Avenue South. Please call 239-434-7340 x10 for an appointment.
This play calls for two principal men, (1) age 40-60 and (1) age 16-22 with strong dancing skills. Six principal women will also be needed, (1) between the ages 40-55, (2) ages 18-28 and (3) ages 30+. Two girls will also be required for the show between the ages of 7-12. Boys and girls ages 7-16 will be needed for the ensemble with small speaking parts. A large singing and dancing ensemble of all ages will also be required with small speaking parts. Rehearsal begins May 5. Preview night is June 26. Performance dates are June 27 through July 27, 2014.
Those auditioning should be prepared to sing 32 bars (about one minute) of a song. Please bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided or you may bring a recording without vocals if sheet music is not available. The Naples Players also have a small library of show tunes that you may peruse during business hours from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the administrative offices. Those auditioning will also be asked to learn a choreographed movement or dance routine. Scripts are available at the box office for a 3-day perusal with a $20 refundable deposit. This classic American musical takes place in the dying days of vaudeville and tells the story of Momma Rose, the quintessential stage mother, and her obsessive determination to make her two daughters into stars no matter the cost. Inspired by the memoirs of the burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee, this entrancing musical boasts some of Broadway’s most famous melodies like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Some People,” and “Let Me Entertain You.”
The Naples Players’ auditions are open to all interested persons, regardless of age, race or experience. All that is required is the desire to be involved in a production and the willingness to commit time and effort to the project.
